Martin Wednesday and Hooray for Soccer!

FIFA WC 2026

I’m usurping Wobert Wednesday and posting again! Two in one week! Snakes & Otters is getting warmed up and active again, back on track, I can feel it. Reminds me of the heady days of Sputnik and Yuri Gagarin… Whoops, attention span problems, sorry.

So what to post about friends? How about the amazing success the World Cup has been so far in the US? Incredible. Scottish fans drank Boston dry over the weekend. Like literally. Double the business of St. Patrick’s Day. One bar said the cooler door broke they opened it for beer so often. Japanese fans picked up after themselves in Dallas. A German fan is an Internet sensation for his travels across the South, including a stop at Buc-eees at 1 AM. A Frenchman is on the Internet now with a video about how American air conditioning is the greatest thing of all time. Americans have welcomed all the overseas fans with open arms, and the foreigners have responded with open stomachs for BBQ and all the beer they can find. In short, American wins again.

Hey FIFA, instead of having future World Cup tourneys in some Euro back lot that doesn’t have enough room to park our RVs, let’s have it in America again. I get that 2030 is already decided for Spain, Portugal and Morocco, but bring it around to the USA again soon. Give all those soccer fans another vacation here in the Land of the Free so they know what a real country is supposed to be. We got enough stadiums here we could probably host every other tourney and alternate which NFL stadiums are used each time. I need World Cup games in Vegas. Flood the place with Euroweenies and fleece them dry. I think we need to make this happen. Then all the visiting fans can go home and ask why their countries aren’t more like America. Maybe get some changes made to these places. Maybe start with exporting a little First Amendment, James Madison wisdom back to Britain. They could use it.

I'm Martin, the heathen. My perspective can skew a bit from Francis and Robert, but that makes it fun for us all.
